Many livestream cameras monitor the Kulauea Volcano in Hawaii and earlier this week, two men were caught on one of those cameras getting too close to the eruption. 'A'Ali'i Dukelow has more on the incident that's prompting a plea for people to follow the rules when visiting Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
1959 Kīlauea Iki eruption: It happened in the crater just north of the volcano’s caldera, lasting only about a month with 17 episodes and inclined lava fountains, including the highest lava fountains measured on Kīlauea to date at a massive 1,900 feet.
Episode 39 of the ongoing eruption at Kīlauea is expected to begin Dec. 24-25, 2025. PC: USGS (12.23.25) The forecast window for the onset of the next episode of lava fountaining at Kīlauea runs from Dec. 23-26, with Episode 39 likely to begin on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, according to scientists with the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.

Since December 23, 2024, the north and south vents within Halemaʻumaʻu crater, within Kaluapele (the summit caldera), have erupted in 39 lava fountaining episodes (episodes 13, 24, 28, 34, and 38 are highlighted in the photos accompanying this article).
